Derby ebony 4-inch chess pieces are a full Staunton tournament set with a distinctive knight and extra queens for promotion play. Made for regular games on larger chessboards, they combine the Derby model’s familiar profile with a characterful design of its own.
The knight is the set’s most distinctive piece. Its slightly tilted head, flowing mane and open mouth give it a more dynamic look than many classic Staunton designs, while the overall shape remains easy to recognise on the board.
Hand-carved from ebony and boxwood
These pieces are hand-carved and polished by Indian craftsmen. The dark pieces are made from ebony and the light pieces from boxwood, creating a clear contrast during play. They also work well for display on a chessboard.
