This German 5+ set of weighted Staunton-style chess pieces is made for boards with 55 mm squares. The 98 mm king, metal weighting and soft base pads give the pieces a solid feel in the hand and help them sit securely on the board during play.
The German 5+ model is made from Schima superba wood and finished in brown. Its proportions make the pieces easy to follow on the board, and the classic shape works well on both folding cardboard boards and tournament-style chessboards.
Practical in play
Metal weighting adds stability, while the soft pads on the bases help protect the chessboard surface. The set also includes 2 additional queens, which is useful when a pawn is promoted.
The pieces are packed in a cardboard box with zip bags for storage after the game. This is a good choice if you already have a chessboard and want a separate set of pieces to match it.
