This English hardcover chess book is the third and final volume of Tibor Károlyi’s series on Mikhail Tal, bringing together annotated games, biographical research and the story of one of chess history’s most captivating champions.
It follows Tal’s career from 1972 to 1992, covering the years after his world title reign through to the end of his life. The book looks at his unbeaten streaks in the early 1970s, his victory in the Montreal 1979 Tournament of Champions and his World Blitz Championship win in 1988.
Alongside the games, Károlyi adds analysis, background research and anecdotes from players who knew Tal and faced him over the board. The result is a detailed study of Tal’s later career and a fitting conclusion to the trilogy.
Tibor Károlyi is an International Master, former Hungarian Champion and an established author and trainer. He won the Guardian Book of the Year prize in 2007.
