The Alterman Gambit Handbook: Gambits with Black 1 is a German-language chess opening book by Boris Alterman, focused on ambitious gambit play for Black and on the practical, tactical positions that arise from it.
What this book covers
Alterman concentrates on some of the most combative systems available to Black. He shows how gambits can be used not only as a surprise weapon, but also as a way to build pressure and take control of the game’s pace. This makes the book a good fit for players who enjoy sharp chess, tactical motifs and imbalanced positions.
The coverage includes the Volga Gambit, the Blumenfeld Gambit, the Wagenian Gambit, 1.d4 Nf6 side lines and the English Gambit.
That range makes the book useful both for players who like gambit openings and for anyone preparing to face them from the other side of the board. It helps you understand the ideas behind these systems as well as how to handle them with Black.
About the author
Boris Alterman is a grandmaster and the founder of the Shevah-Mofet chess academy in Israel. He studied at the Botwinnik-Kasparov school and also worked on Deep Junior, the program that drew its famous match with Kasparov and later won matches against Radjabov and Deep Fritz. That background is reflected in the way the material is presented: the emphasis is on concrete ideas, active play and practical understanding.
